[info]junkfood_monkey wrote a very interesting and thoughtful article about NaNo. Why NaNoWriMo is not about writing

I recommend y'all read it, even if you didn't participate. Some very good and interesting points there.

I dare you to say that three times fast! Lol!

So yah, NaNo...how are folks doin' with that? I'm at least caught up through day 6, so I'll be writing for day 7 tonight. I started the week out slightly ahead of myself, but fell behind since I didn't get a lick of writing done last night. But work turned out to be a bit slow (really slow) and so I spent a bit of time working on my story (Shh! Don't tell my boss!) ;p

I am now back up to my personal goal - which is min of 1667 words per day. That would put one at slightly over the 50,000 word goal at the end of the month. It sounds like I'm being lazy (doing only the min) but I think of it as not how much I need to write, but how little. I'm actually hoping to clear 50K by a bit, but I'm using the 1667/day to keep my butt focused on writing on a daily basis.

At any rate, my story is ... hrm, how shall I say it? Discombulated. That sounds good. I don't really have a 'story', but rather segments of a story. My muse is behaving only somewhat, and while she's giving me material for the story, she's not giving it to me in any particular order. And certainly not in logical order.

I have scene skips. Parts that jump from the beginning to the story to somewhere in the middle. I even have one part that contradicts another! *headdesk*

The muse pulled a doozie on that one! I wrote a segment and what was supposed to be a brief mention of an event that happened some time in the past, it suddenly became a whole scene in and of itself that I just *had* to write out in its entirity. What should have been a very, very, very minor character mention (oh gee, we feel sorry for that one and let's move on and look at something else) has now firmly stepped up to being a major character. The muse is now laughing her ass off at me, daring me to try to kill this character off now. (I'm not even going to try to fight that battle, the muse has already won.)

So at some point, I'm going to have a batch of re-writing to do. *facepalm* But that's what December is for. How's everyone else's story going?

and if you're curious, the current word count is at 10,139. Whee!

I took a little quiz, the Morphin Grid Selector aka, what Power Ranger would you be?

The result was intersting...

Green Ranger, here I come! )

Kind of nifty...

In other news - I signed up for NaNoWriMo. Can I write 50,000 words in one month's time? Guess we'll find out.

(why do I always get sucked into these things? Oh! I know; I'm a glutton for personal punishment! *headdesk*)
