icarusancalion has done a very good write-up on the difference between plagiarism and fanfic.

Fanfic can sometimes walk a very narrow tightrope, that question 'can fanfic be considered as original works or is it just copyright rip-offs?' becomes even more obscured when people plagerize. Whether it's a well-known published work or someone else's fanfic.

Fanfic writers everywhere (or it seems like everywhere, at least on my flist) are all doing that 'fanfic/writing meme'. So of course, I just *had* to do it too.

LttleDvl is my pen name. It also happens to be my internet nick/screen/username for just about every website/forum/chat/im that I’ve ever been to. (hey; I’m nothing if not consistent ;)

Chances are if you’ve ever seen LttleDvl anywhere on a fic, no matter the archive/webpage, it’ll be me.

Well, I got hit by and idea after chatting with KK a bit, and I'd like to know what is the worst, inane, craptastic thing you've ever written. Feel free to include snippets, excerpts, etc from that horrible thing you have lurking in the shadowy confines of your harddrive.

Let that creepy, scary zombie monster thing out in honor of Halloween. Guarenteed to probably be the scariest meme ever. Hee!

So, a little discussion that started over at icarusancalion's really makes me want to spork my eyeballs out now...

Apparently, Ms. Mercedes Lackey (author of numerous fantasy novels of which I am fan) appears to only semi-support fanfiction.

What do I mean by semi-support?

Tis simple; if you want to write fanfic based on her writings all you gotta do is get it published in one of the approved fanzines (which of course can only happen after you submit a release form), it cannot be online (as seen on her webpage: "We don't allow online fanfiction or online games, MUDs, MUCKs or MUSHs; anything else is fine."), oh, and it is also highly recommended that if you want to continue in your silly pursuit of fanficcing Ms. Lackey's world(s) that you jump through several flaming hoops, sacrifice your first born child and teach your dog to juggle.

And here I thought I was gonna be able to do a nice little crossover for au100 between the SPD crew and her stuff. *scraps that idea*

Yes, yes, it is her creation after all, but damn...

50%? 50 stinking percent of any possible proceeds you might make from your published work?? 50%??? gee, now I just wanna dig my brain out with a spoon... 50%??????? (yes, I did read said release form O_o)

1. Pick a favorite scene from one of your own stories. (Please, please, your own stories. I'm not encouraging actual plagiarism here.)
2.Pick a fandom (the more it makes you want to spork your eyeballs out,the better), "recast" your story for that fandom, and use find/replaceto change the character names in the story. (Not up for the effort of fixing pronouns and physical descriptions? Why bother?)

When it comes to reading a fic, do you prefer first person or third? Present tense or past? Why or why not?

No; I'm not asking for some silly quiz or anything like that, I'm asking because I really want to know.

I'm toying with the idea of writing a fic in first person but wanted to get a feel from you guys if you think it'll work or not.

It's not an online journal either, its an actual bound paper journal.

darklock came up with the idea of having traveling journals related to fandom based on the idea of '1000 journals'

The basic concept is that folks would add to the journals and pass them on.

I got so many different ideas; should I do them? Let's see what we have:
(most of these are for SPD, btw)

Bridge finds himself trapped outside of his body (think astral projection - if you've ever seen the ep of Supernatural 'In My Time of Dying' it would be something like that). RIC is able to detect him and Bridge is able to communicate with others through RIC. They have to figure out; a)what happened in the first place, and b)how to get Bridge 'back' where he belongs

An AU (really, really, really AU) where the Rangers did not come to SPD as portrayed in the show and most of them resent being there. They're also a lot more antagonist towards each other. I'm thinking along the lines of the 'bad-ass kid' attitude like you'd see in some schools. But they eventually find that they can be friends and can work together. This story will have quite a bit of cursing ;)

Another AU - this one much darker than #3. Violence and possibly rape. (like I said, really dark). It would be MA/NC-17. I'm thinking along the lines of what if the Rangers were evil? I'm sure this idea has been done before, but what the heck...

One of the Rangers becomes sick. The others have to figure out why before something truly dreadful happens...(not much to give out because I'm afraid I will give away too much. I've actually got this in an outline/synopsis form already and it's too easy for me to delve into bits that I don't want to give out just yet).

SPD in the future. A new team of Rangers. But the former B-Squad is still around. No real direction or plot for this one yet, just a niggling idea of the new Ranger team.

One last story idea - Not SPD; this one is Stargate Atlantis

The team finds a bunch of kids living on their own in the woods (no, it's not another version of 'Childhood's End', hear me out...). These kids were brought to this planet by the Wraith. A small girl seems to have powers of somekind and a Wraith ship along with the Hive Queen appear, looking for this girl. A discovery by the team may reveal why the Queen from Season 2 was never affected by the retro-virus... (assuming that hasn't been covered in a current episode, however. I have only seen 2 episodes of second half of season 3 - 'Echos' and 'The Return part 3')

So! What do y'all think? Do any of these sound like something you'd want to read? Or am I just 'waaaaayyy too out there' with these ideas.
